Analysis and interpret ABG values
An 18 year old girl is rushed to the CHUK Emergency Department after a motor vehicle accident. She is unconscious and unresponsive to deep stimuli. Her breathing is notably decreased and there is a gasp heard with inhalation.
Current vital signs: HR 110, BP 145/95, RR 8, Temp 37C. Unable to assess pain at this time.
An ABG is retrieved:
pH: 7.25
CO2: 57
HCO3: 25
pO2: 50

If PH is normal is full compensation
While if PH is abnormal is uncompensation or partial compensation

CO3 is normal
PO2 is moderate hypoxemia
Conclusion : Respiratory acidosis due to moderate hypoxemia with partial compensation
