Analysis and interpret ABG values

A 60 year old man is transferred to Rwanda Military Hospital from a referring district clinic. He has a history of DM1 and hypertension. He complains of three days of shortness of breath with activity. Respiratory rate is increased. Patient is alert and oriented, but complains of mild dizziness. 

Current vital signs include: HR 93, BP 131/88, RR 24, Temp 37.8 C. Patient c/o slight pain on R rib cage, “under my arm,” around the 10-11th intercostal space, mid axillary line.

An ABG is retrieved: 

pH: 7.5

CO2: 30

HCO3: 21

pO2: 78
